Mom's Day Out

Yesterday, I had a really nice 'outing'--running errands and lovely grocery shopping. Since I am a stay-at-home, I don't leave the house hardly at all--and with gas prices I really try not too. So I enjoy grocery shopping days (not that I necessarily like grocery shopping but just getting out and not having to look at the endless laundry or house chores that still need to be done). I am not sure what was in the air yesterday but the girls were just aweful. It was one of those days I wanted to just sit in the middle of Wal-Mart and cry. I had to go to a few places before Wal-mart and by the time I got to Wal-mart I'd already had it with them...I am sure if you are a mother you know what I mean!?!?! So I gave them a STERN speech. We went and had lunch at McDonald's inside the Wal-mart and all went pretty smooth. I begin to shop and I needed to try on a shirt so I went and pulled my cart up to the fitting room. While I was getting the shirt and getting ready to get Shianne (22 month old 'baby') out of the cart...she decides to take my completely full EXTRA LARGE sprite and turn it upside down in the cart...which I already had a few items in. So I stand there in disbelief and just baffled. The lady at the desk saw the whole thing and got under the counter to get a roll of towels. I went over and apologized and said I'd be glad to clean it up but she refused to allow me to clean it. So that was #1. Then of course my phone rings twice...never do I hardly ever get a call but these calls came when I had a pretty good load of groceries in the cart; a sleeping 25+ pound baby on my shoulder just bogging me down; and the other girls still acting up. As soon as I got off the phone, I overheard a lady who had a little boy probably 4 years old and he looked like he was a handful. She was just talking on her phone saying "He is acting up so bad today"...and on and on.
Then our 2nd daughter begins to throw her bag of mints up in the air and they fall to the floor and the bag bust open.
So I get up to the register and a lady in front of me was checking out. She had two little boys...probably around 4 years old and less than 1 year old in cart. The 4 year old looked as if he'd had a party with gum in the back of his hair (and it was thick hair) but the lady in front of us said it was silly putty. (That momma was going to have to do some clipping when she got him home) Well, as this mother was getting ready to pay for her groceries, she couldn't find her debit card. She searched and searched. I think she eventually tried another card and it didn't go through. So anyways, she gets on the phone (I guess with her husband) and ask him if he has her debit card. So she had to leave her groceries there in the cart...already bagged up and ready to go in search of maybe finding her card in her vehicle. She said if she didn't find it there she'd run to the bank real quick.
I get to the register and the girls are acting as if they've had a spoon full of sugar. The cashier was very sweet and was just kind of chuckling while on the inside I was like...you just wait til you get home! I just looked at the cashier and said "I think all mommy's are having one of these days. I feel like warning the ones I see coming into the store to just turn around and go back home cause you'll be exhausted by the time you leave this place."
Later in the evening I was talking on the phone to my mom telling her about my 'lovely' day...of course, I could tell that grandma didn't really believe HER GRANDdaughters would act in such a way but they sure did. So the next time we go grocery shopping, we're having devotional time before we head out the door. I am a firm believer (even though I don't always practice this) but spending time with the Lord in prayer and in our Bible works more effectively at the beginnning of the day...especially for stay-at-home moms. I can honestly say those days I put HIM first, even before school or anything, our day goes a lot smoother. So TODAY...we're going to start it out right and have devotion time before our day gets to rolling and I pray my day proves to be a smoother one than yesterday.
p.s. Today is my hubby's birthday...he's one special man and I pray the Lord blesses us with a long life together!
