Let's Take A Vacation Part III

4. Souvenirs
When we go on a trip, how many of us make sure we pick up some sort of souvenir? Souvenirs are little trinkets we pick up on our journeys to remind us of where we have been. Even though most of the time they are small in size, souvenirs keep us from forgetting the path we have traveled. To some degree, we treasure our souvenirs because of the memories behind them. I know from our time spent in Germany, while my husband was in the military, everything I brought back from Germany, Poland, Holland, things he got me in Africa, Bosnia, Hungry...mean something to me.

Have we ever looked at our Bible as a souvenir? The Bible is a souvenir...even more precious than anything we may have collected on our vacations. Most of us have so many Bibles that we don't really look at them as a souvenir. I was stunned when in our ladies Sunday School class one Sunday, a lady raised her hand to say she didn't have a Bible. What brought this up was our SS class was collecting monies to help purchase Bible's for those in OTHER countries that don't have a Bible. Yet there in our own SS class (in the United States) sat a lady who didn't own a Bible. I don't always look at my Bible as a souviner because I have so many -- a church Bible, a study Bible, the Bible I got soon after getting saved with TONS of notes in it. Those souviners we collect while on vacation will age and probably break or not look as new at some point--but God's Word will always stand.

Matthew 24:35 "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away."

We should collect (memorize) Scriptures from God's Word and treasure them to help us on life's journey. We need them each and every day --as a Christian, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a co-worker, a friend--whoever you are, no one is not in need of God's Word. We need to start looking at our Bible as a souvenir--cherish God's Word, treasure God's Word, and share God's Word with others on our trip through life.
