Singing In The Rain

The other morning it was just dreary and rainy outside. The sun wasn’t even attempting to break through and what did I hear out our living room window? Birds singing!! Oh I love to hear birds sing (I got that from my mother). I thought to myself “Those little birds still have a song even in the rain.” Now when I get up and the suns out shining brightly, I normally don’t struggle with having a song in my heart. But on those rainy days…that’s another story.

As Christians, we should still have a song even in the rain. No, not necessarily the rain as in raindrops---but those times in our lives where it’s just one thing after another hitting us over the head so to speak.

The last couple months have been difficult I must admit since my husband did a job transfer. Looking at the numbers---it WAS impossible to survive. I’ve learned that God can do more with numbers than we can. He can stretch a dollar further than we can…even with the state of the economy. God has been so faithful.

If we take the time to look around, even in the midst of the rains of life---we can still find ourselves singing in the rain. I want to share with you some of our ‘showers of blessings’ that gave us a reason to sing in the rain!

Our girls were asked to sing for our Mother/Daughter Banquet. Well, I agreed to that not even thinking about the monies it would take to attend. They were already planning on them singing and my husband and I were like….where are we going to get the monies? The night my husband was going to tell them we just wouldn’t be able to attend (and not tell them why unless they insisted on knowing--I must admit due to embarrassment and p-r-I-d-e) ‘someone’ showered us with a blessing. What a reason to sing in the rain. I asked my husband, ‘Did you tell the pastor?’ and he said, “No”. I said, “Well, someone has paid our way! Who on this earth would’ve known our situation.” (I tried to figure it all out---BUT GOD met a need).

This past week we found out my husband will get promoted!!! Praise the Lord! After he called and told me, all day long I continually said, “Praise the Lord” “God is so good” “God answers prayer” “Thank You Jesus”…the girls thought I was a bit crazy and said “Why do you keep saying that over and over?” I told them if they knew what the last month or two was like (they don't see the checkbook of course)…they’d be doing the same. GOD IS SO FAITHFUL, isn’t He?

One night at church, someone slipped my husband a little note and some $ and said in the note to use for whatever! They knew we were having to take Destiny back and forth and with gas and parking garage fees (I thought I‘d use the valet parking--not realizing how expensive it was--but I won‘t be doing that no more so that helped out after I made a crazy mistake)---that was a shower of blessing in the midst of our little storm. Some may say, “Oh that was so small” but I have found we can find major blessings in the minor things that come our way. Every blessing seems to meet a need we have and the Lord is faithful to supply!

I still to this day remember when we first arrived here in North Carolina after leaving Germany and the military life. It was VERY scary. There were so many unknowns I couldn’t list them all. I was 6-7 months pregnant; husband had no job; we had no home---all we had was each other, our oldest daughter, a vehicle and THE LORD! We stayed in a hotel for like 3-4 nights and then someone opened up a cabin they had for us to stay in. It was nice but I couldn’t really cook ‘real’ meals. One Monday night, 2 people came from our church and brought us fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. Those were the best tasting cookies…and I will never forget that ‘little blessing’ that was MAJOR to us. So small but yet so great!!!!!!!!!! (especially being a chocolate lover and then pregnant on top of that---my cravings tripled for chocolate)

Think of a way you can shower someone with a blessing---you never know---they may just need something to sing about in the rain!
