Our Words As Garden Tools - Part III

Rake - Don’t Rake Others “Over The Coals”

Proverbs 12:18 “There is that speaketh like the piercing of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health”

Proverbs 18:21a “Death and life are in the power of the tongue..”

Proverbs 21:19 “It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.”

James 3:8-10 “But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceeded blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.”

How do you feel when you hear someone has raked you “over the coals” or someone in your family? It’s probably not going to be one of our best days if that happens, is it? We should NEVER allow our tongues to be used as a sword - slashing away at others, cutting and causing pain. If we are going to be wise in the use of our tongue, we should speak words of health and healing. Encouraging words; uplifting words; give Godly wisdom; praising others; telling others we love them and appreciate all they do. Isn’t it sad but the ones we hold most dear (our family) are the ones we find the easiest to ‘get at’? As a mother of 4, I want to ‘blame’ it on the fact I am a SAHM and hardly EVER get a much needed break for my frustration at times when I just feel overwhelmed but there is no excuse for the use of words that don’t encourage, uplift, show love or approval. No excuse! Look around you and instead of raking up coals on others…find words of praise today and share them with those you hold most dear as well as others!!!

Tommorrow we will look at: Hoe - Don’t Hoe Sows Of Deceit and Falsehood
