What's In Your Purse? Part I

We've probably all played the game where someone reads a list of items to find in your purse. The lady who has the most items in her purse wins a prize. Isn't it amazing we can learn 'spiritual' lessons from the simpliest things--even a purse game?

Some of the items you may need to search for in your purse for this game may be:

1. Calendar Psalm 118:24 "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." We need to claim this verse each and every day. In fact, I find myself quoting this verse at the beginning of those days where I can already tell it's going to be a 'rough' one! (Know what I mean?) We have SO MUCH to rejoice about and to be glad about. Thank the Lord for the days He's given you!

2. Lipstick

Psalm 51:15 "O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise."

Use those lips to find something to praise the Lord about! If we praised (myself included) as much as we complained--what better Christians we would be...and what better example we would be for our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Use those lips to tell others how wonderful Jesus is and what a difference He's made in your life.

3. Hand Lotion

Eccl. 9:10a "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might:"

Whatever we do, we need to put forth full effort and do our best--as a wife, mother, S.S. teacher, singing in the choir, playing an instrument. If I am not going to put forth 100% to a task, I mis' well allow someone else to do it who will put forth the effort to do a job well done for the Lord. Let's make an effort to do our absolute best at EVERYTHING and in EVERY area of our life!

4. A Prescription Medicine Bottle

Proverbs 17:22a "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine:"

Does medicine help or harm us? Well, hopefully it is taken to help us, unless in rare cases there is an allergic reaction or something. We can change the outlook of the day, or task, or just our everyday responsibilities (that seem to be endless as a wife and mother)--if we would change our heart attitude and have a merry heart! How about changing the way someone else's day is going? If we have a merry heart, we can do them good and change their day around. Let's put a smile on (NOT a fake one) but a genuine smile that reaches out to encourage others and bring a dose of encouragement their way.

5. Kleenex

Psalm 130:1 "Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Lord."

Do you ladies ever find yourself crying till you feel there are no more tears to cry? I have been there...in fact recently...and I am sure you've been there as well. We must remember, when the depths of despair overwhelm us we must cry out to God. He hears us and He'll give us the strength we need to endure such times.
