HHHHUUUUUUMMMMMMingbirds

My favorite bird would have to be hummingbirds. My mom would always have feeders out and make special food for them. It was so interesting to watch them. I researched just to see what I could learn about them. Hope you’ll enjoy these facts I found.

- Hummingbirds flap their wings 50-200 times per second.
- They can fly up, down, right, left, backwards, upside down, and even loop-de-loops.
- Hummers can starve to death in about an hour (better keep those feeders filled)
- They eat every 10 minutes throughout the day (I must be a hummingbird sometimes)
- Even though they are tiny birds, they consume up to 50% of their body weight in a day.
- Their main diet is sugar.
- Their tongues can take up to 13 licks a second.
- Hummers have very good memories and will even be able to remember where they found food from the previous year.
- Hummers can fly up to 25-30 mph!
- Their wings flutter in a figure 8 motion while flying.
- They are only found on the American continent.
- Hummingbirds normally live 3-6 years.
- Hummers do not nest in birdhouses.
- Why are they called hummingbirds? They get their name from the sound their wings make when flying.
- Their nest are about the size of half a walnut shell.
- With no feathers, the average hummer is about the size of a bumblebee.

Isn’t that interesting? There’s always something more to learn! Enjoy this beautiful bird God has created and Have an enjoyable summer!
