"Ideals" Article From My Grandma's Bible

Ideals are important in every girl's life. The word "ideals" means approaching perfection; pattern; a goal highly diserable, worthy of emulation.

Every girl should have high ideals. Everyone worthy of the air he breathes wishes to amount to something. Ideals should be set and never too low. "Aim at the moon" even if you cannot soar quiet that high. Someone has said, "Too low they build who build below the skies." We live in the land of freedom and opportunity and there is no excuse for our not succeeding.

Perhaps you are wondering what the qualities of an ideal girl are. Let us list a few of them. First, she is modest. She dresses in a decent and becoming manner. She does not boast of her accomplishments but lets others praise her, nor is she bold and presumptuous. Solomon said, "Let another praise thee and not thine own lips."

The ideal girl observes the proprieties of sex, acting and talking only as is expected of a pure, virtuous girl.

She obeys her parents, keeping the Biblical admonition. "Children, obey your parents in the Lord."

Dependability and honesty are her qualities also. She can be depended upon to display these qualities at home, school, work, church, and in recreational and social life among her friends.

Most important of all, the ideal girl is a Christian. The girl who would be truly ideal must be a Christian to reach that goal. She cannot hope to be at her best in life until she has made acquaintance with the Perfect Pattern, Jesus Christ. Solomon, speaking of the ideal woman said, "Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised." Prov. 31:30

Set your goals high, and the Lord Jesus will help you to be an ideal girl.
