The other day I was going through my candles (I love candles). I came across a fall spice candle that I put on my candle warmer (those are the greatest things -- candles last longer and you can leave it on all the time) I heated the wax up and not long after our home was filled with the fragrance of autumn time! Up until that point, I really hadn't given much thought to fall's arrival but after filling our home with such a sweet fragrance--I am more than ready! I can't wait to see the pumpkins, the leaves change into a variety of vibrant colors, fall decor out in yards, hanging my fall decor flag on the porch, putting my 'new' fall door decor up I got at a yard sale for $2, and just that crisp, fresh air that seems to come each fall after the hot, stuffy summer months. Simply put--that simple candle changed my mood! In fact as soon as my husband got home, I asked him if he smelled it as he entered the house--of course he did :-)
A candle is just a small simple item, isn't it? But yet it can fill the home which such an aroma that all the dirt and dust just seems to fade away (I wish it were that easy) but if a house smells good then it just automatically feels fresher and cleaner. Ladies, by the smallest little detail or 'obstruction' of our day, we can change our mood can't we? The kids didn't do something exactly right; our hair didn't go up exactly like we'd like it to; the cake is just a little on the overdone side; our mailbox wasn't filled with nice, pretty cards but filled with bills; it's raining outside and we had outdoor plans...just the smallest little things can alter our mood. The other day, before I even had a thought about any of this, I found myself getting totally upset...I mean really upset...about the smallest little thing. In fact, it was so small I can't remember exactly what it was. But soon after I got upset, I remember telling myself (not out load--of course I didn't want the girls to hear) that was so crazy. Why did I get upset over something so small?
Most of the time it seems it takes very, very, very little for us to 'blow our tops' or for our mood to swing in the wrong direction...but SO MUCH to stay or swing back into the right mood.
What mood are you putting forth today? What aroma fills your home as a wife, mother and most importantly a CHRISTIAN? If it helps, pull a nice smelling candle out and keep it brightly shining all day as a reminder of a sweet smelling aroma we should have in our hearts each and every day. Remember, don't fret the small stuff...there are far more important things to focus on such as our MANY blessings! May you have a blessed, sweet smelling aroma filled day :-)
