Each night we have an 'unwelcomed' guest come to our bedroom. Normally this 'guest' comes around 1 or 2 a.m. It's like clockwork. If it doesn't happen, I begin to fear something is wrong. That special 'guest' is our precious little 2 year old daughter. I know, I know, I know...such a bad habit to break but as I told her doctor at her 2 year check-up a couple days ago...MOMMA NEEDS REST!!!! So I just let her in bed with us and snooze on...or try to snooze I should say! She has this thing of just wanting to get closer, and closer, and closer to either my husband or I. Normally, it seems I get the privilege of being smoothered in her sleepy love :-)
I said all of that to say this: As I began to think of how she just desires to be closer and closer and to get herself as close as she can to us during the night...is that my desire to be closer and closer to the Lord until His sweet return? What if each of us had such a determination to get as close to the Lord as we possibly could each day...how would that change our lifes? Do you ever feel like you are so 'distant' from the Lord? I'll have to be honest, at times I feel that way. Then when I begin to do a 'spiritual checkup'...it is I that has become distant from the Lord. I find in my 'checkup' that I haven't been as true in my Bible reading, in my quiet time with the Lord, in my prayer life. James 4:8a says "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you." Who is to take action first? We are..."Draw nigh to God". Then what is the result once WE draw nigh to God? "He will draw nigh to you". Do you feel like you need to be a little closer to the Lord? Then draw nigh to HIM...and in return He'll draw nigh to you!!!! Spend some time getting closer to the Lord today...and every day! Have a wonderful, blessed weekend!
