Turning Our Grumbling Into Gratitude--It's ALL In Our Attitude
Complain! Complain! Complain! I want us to just take a moment and think of some things we can complain about--are you ready?
- it's so rainy and cold outside so the kids are stuck indoors AGAIN
- my hair just won't do ANYTHING
- I sure wish for...
- Well, if I had a bigger house I'd be MORE organized (I don't think so)
- Why can't I do what she does - I'd be a happier person! (Discontentment right there, huh?)
- Why doesn't he just...and if he did, I'd...
- and tomorrow will be a whole 'nother realm of grumbling "Why is the turkey so dry?" "That cranberry salad didn't set up like is usually does" "My poor pumpkin roll didn't roll up as pretty as it normally does" --- Just have a heart of gratitude! Be thankful you even have a turkey and all the fixn's! By tomorrow night, Thanksgiving Day, we'll all be sitting around wishing we hadn't ate all we did, right?
If we really stop to think about it, most of the things we grumble about are just SILLY STUFF!! Isn't it?
We all have probably heard the GRUMBLERS 'theme song'---
Grumble on Monday,
Grumble on Tuesday,
Grumble on Wednesday too
Grumble on Thursday
Grumble on Friday
Grumble the whole week through.
Oh, may that NOT be our 'theme song' as Christian ladies. I do NOT like to be around ladies who have a habit of just grumbling and if I am not careful, sometimes I can be that 'grumbler' over just silly stuff.
We need to put on the ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE!
Our 'theme songs' should be more like the following ---
Great Is Thy Faithfulness
Count Your Many Blessings
Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow
God Is So Good
Now Thank We All Our God
We Gather Together
Praise Him Praise Him
and I love the little chorus that goes:
I am blessed
I am blessed
Everyday that I live
I am blessed
When I wake up in the morning
Till I lay my head to rest
I am blessed
I am blessed.
We are a blessed people, aren't we? No matter how hard you think you may be having it, there is ALWAYS someone far worse off that you are! So put on the ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE!
And ladies, let's be extra careful when that 'Christmas Shopping Rush' hits that we carry a Christ-like attitude. I almost dispise going to the stores after Thanksgiving...I absolutely dread it. Talking about a showcase of attitudes...you'll find them out there. We, as Christian ladies, are to be a light though in amongst the darkness.
The other day my husband went to Wal-mart after work to grab something for me and there was a gentle man (not an older man either) with a sign that read "Y Lie - I need a beer!" You know a lot of times you see "Homeless Veteran" "Need monies" etc...and some of those may be for 'real' but this guy was just honest! How sad! All around us are people who are discouraged and beaten down by life. They come across plenty of grumblers, but how many do they cross paths with that just have a heart of gratitude? We cannot impact the world for Christ with the attitude of grumbling - grumbling isn't very attractive at all! We must put on the attitude of GRATITUDE - sincerely I might add!
Let's be sure and spread a little gratitude in amongst all the grumbling that will be taking place this holiday season. Let's be that light God wants us to be and impact this world for Christ! I encourage you to get some Christmas tracts to pass out while you are out shopping. We have some tracts with a Christmas design so I think people are more apt to take them, especially around Christmas.
So what's your attitude -- an attitude of gratitude or an attitude of grumbling? I pray each of us will put on the attitude of gratitude! May each of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your friends and family!!!!
