A Beautiful Woman Without Discretion - Part I

As ladies, when we think of the book of Proverbs, we probably automatically think of the ultimate Proverbs 31 lady. Do you realize there are several different types of ladies mentioned in the book of Proverbs?

Each week we will 'meet' a different lady in the book of Proverbs. Today we will 'meet':

The Beautiful Woman Without Discretion

Proverbs 11:22 "As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion"

Ladies, I want you to picture a dirty, stinky old pig with a fine piece of gold jewelry in his snout! You may find yourself even chuckling just trying to visualize this scene. How can the pig with the gold jewelry in its snout relate to ladies? Well, have you ever met a very beautiful lady and yet the beauty she had was only on the outward--There was no inward beauty to be found? Some ladies are very physically attractive but morally they are deficient.

Discretion basically means that we are cautious in our decisions.

Are we cautious in:

Our attitude
Our testimony
Our speech
Our actions
Our dress

Let's look at a few verses that deal with discretion:

Proverbs 2:11 "Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee"

Do we have the ability to make wise decisions? NO! We can do nothing on our own. We must ask the Lord for guidance and wisdom in every area of our life. (John 15:5b)

Proverbs 19:11 "The discretion of a man defereth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression"

A lady with good sense knows how to control her temper. She can graciously overlook it when somebody wrongs her. Are we that type of lady? Are we a lady with discretion?

Ladies, may we never be found following the example of a beautiful lady without discretion. Let's focus our attention on our inward beauty. Then our outward appearance will just radiate with true beauty that comes by walking close to the Lord. Spend time thinking of some ladies who have walked with the Lord for many years--aren't they beautiful? They must be a lady with discretion.
